YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE

You never said I’m leaving,

You never said goodbye.

You were gone before I knew it,

And only God knew why.

A million times I needed you,

A million times I cried.

If love alone could have saved you,

You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,

In death I love you still.

In my heart you hold a place,

That no one could ever fill.

It broke my heart to lose you,

But you didn’t go alone.

For part of me went with you,

The day God took you home.

What Matters?

For each of us eventually, whether we are ready or not some day it will come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected whether treasured or forgotten will pass to someone else. Your wealth, fame and world power will shrivel to irrelevance. It won’t matter what you owned or owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear. So too your hopes, ambitions, plans and to do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you once lived. It won't matter if you are beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender or skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter? How will the values of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought but what you built. Not what you got but what you gave. What will matter is not your success but your significance. What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught. What will matter is every active integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to follow your example. What will matter is not your competence but your character. What will matter is not how many people you knew but how many will feel the lasting loss when you are gone. What will matter is not your memories but the memories that live in those who loved you. What will matter is how long you will be remembered by whom and for what.

Life lived that matters is not out of circumstance but out of choice.

Since lock down period started am seeing two types of people. One who is struggling to survive without food or basic needs and another enjoying quarantine period with family. One who is standing in queue to get food and milk distributed by government or social groups, another posting cooking/food pictures in whats app and Instagram.

Witnessing the both i was recalling Prof. K.S. Nisar Ahmed's below poem. And it is very sad to hear that he is no more among us. I grew up listening to his songs. One of the best poet and Kannada literary pride. Rest in Peace.

ನಾಡ ದೇವಿಯೇ ಕಂಡೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಡಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಥ ದೃಶ್ಯ;

ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರವಿಲ್ಲ ಹೆಣಕೆಂದು ತಲೆಗೆ ಕೈ ಹೊತ್ತ ಬಡವನೊಬ್ಬ;
                                                                   ನಾಡ ದೇವಿಯೇ ...

ಅನ್ನವಿರದ ಹಸುಳೆಗಳ ತಬ್ಬಿ ಅಳುತಿರುವ ತಾಯ ಕಂಡೆ;

On Love. By Kahlil Gibran

Then said Almitra, Speak to us of Love.
And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said:
When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and 16caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover 17your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.”
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. 18To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstacy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
